Introduction

Forehearth Services have a wealth of knowledge in the design of forehearth systems, combustion systems and control systems – managing director, John McMinn, designed the widely used PSR500 and Emhart/Sorg 340 forehearth systems. However, Forehearth Services do not normally get involved in the design or supply of forehearth designs or associated hardware.

Design Evaluation

When planning a furnace rebuild the majority of glass plants obtain several commercial and technical proposals. Whilst it is easy to determine whether an offer is within the rebuild budget it is considerably more difficult to assess which proposal provides the best technical solution. This is where Forehearth Services are uniquely placed. Forehearth Services can greatly assist the plant by reviewing all technical aspects of each proposal with complete independence and impartiality and without reference to the financial aspects of the proposals.

We produce a detailed review of the claims and suitability of the proposed design and associated combustion, cooling and control subsystems in relation to the ability to achieve the tonnages and gob temperatures required by the glass plant and promised by the forehearth supplier. Where required we recommend specification or design changes necessary to allow the forehearth to achieve the stated production parameters. It is better to identify potential problems at the initial stages rather than during production.

When a grievance exists, whether as a supplier or end user, Forehearth Services can provide independent, impartial advice to either side in legal dispute. This advice can help decide with whom the fault lies pre-litigation.
